As of right now, not a whole lot. Though, I think part of the reason for this is that there are no large scale battles. Also, who says it needs to be guilds that participate in large scale battles? Hell I wouldn't mind joining one solo just to get in on the PvP.

It'd just seem much more invovled, and make the experience last, IMO.
It wouldnt have to go that far, they would only have to intertwine it more within the established structure and have the pve area change as the result of the pvp. For instance, accomplishing various things within the pvp has different results within the pve mission. Also, having staged events within the same mission area involving various npc challenges, forcing different strategies would be useful as well. Also they could take it a step further, introducing "worlds" similar to the dragon's lair creating other situational challenges from the environment within the pvp area.

Free form pvp leads to degenerate behavoir. Structured pvp leads towards more interdependancy and strategy.

i have a small vision of how one can be good in pvp
now that i have almost every skill for ele & mesmer been trying diferent combinations, its actualy a lot of fun and opens the game to a much more complex way of playing.
still with out a guild team, im not going to team arenas or tombs anymore for sure ... i go to ramdom , cose its fast and fun most of the time.
